Farmers of Chandigarh thanked PM Modi & felicitated State President Arun Sood in the fields of Mani Majra. Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sood said that Modi government has approved the continuation of the urea subsidy scheme to ensure availability of urea to farmers at a flat price of Rs 242 per 45 kg bag, excluding taxes and neem coating charges.

In the package, a commitment has been made to allocate about Rs 3.70 lakh crore towards urea subsidy for three years (2022-23 to 2024-25). This package is in addition to the recently approved Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) of Rs 38,000 crore for the Kharif season of 2023-24.

With this decision of the Modi government, farmers will not need to spend extra for procuring urea and this will help in reducing their input cost. At present, the MRP of urea is Rs 242 per 45 kg urea bag excluding neem coating duty and applicable taxes while the actual cost of the bag is around Rs 2200.

The scheme is fully funded by the Government of India through budgetary support. With the continuation of the urea subsidy scheme, the indigenous production of urea will also be maximum.

Due to the ever-changing geo-political situation and increase in raw material prices, global fertilizer prices are increasing manifold in the last few years but the Narendra Modi government has saved its farmers from high fertilizer prices by increasing the fertilizer subsidy. In its endeavor to protect our farmers, the Government of India has increased the fertilizer subsidy from Rs 73,067 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 2,54,799 crore in 2022-23.

Sood informed that the indigenous production of urea has been increased from the level of 225 LMT in 2014-15 to 250 LMT during 2021-22. The roduction capacity has been increased to 284 LMT in 2022-23. These units together with the Nano Urea Plant will reduce our present import dependence in Urea and make us self-sufficient by 2025-26.
