International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking observed at Pulwama

The District Administration Pulwama in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department today organised a function to celebrate International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking at Govt Degree College Pulwama.Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom was the chief guest on the occasion.

Addressing the audience, DC informed them about the harmful effects of  drug addiction and said that everyone in the society, especially students and teachers, have an important role in getting rid of this evil from society adding that there is an urgent need to combat the social stigma surrounding addiction.

He said that the District Administration has started a campaign to reintegrate such victims in society. He also said that the Administration is committed to make the whole 190 panchayats of the district Drug free Panchayats.He also urged students to carry out an effective campaign in their schools and colleges to educate students and their parents about the ill effects of drugs and illicit trafficking.

On the occasion, the guest speakers enlightened the participants that the drug evil must be eradicated at any cost and public opinion must be created against it. They asked the students to participate in the campaign against drug abuse and help others by making them aware about various aspects of drug abuse prevalent in society.

Earlier, a rally was carried out by volunteer youth and students of different educational institutes that passed through Main Bazar Pulwama to Govt Degree College to aware people about the ill effects of drug addiction.

Principal GDC Pulwama, District Social Welfare Officer, Chief Education Officer, Religious scholars, lawyers, ICDS workers, members from Chemist and Druggist Association and NGOs and a large number of students were present in the event.
