‘World population day’ function held at Mendhar

On the occasion of World Population Day, a function was held at Government sub-district hospital Mendhar here in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.The Sub-District Magistrate (SDM) Romesh Kumar (IAS) Mendhar was the chief guest. Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, Block Medical Officer (BMO) while speaking on the occasion said in the year 1987 World Population was 5 billion and in the year 1989 ,it was decided that July would be celebrated every year will celebrated as World Population Day.“In year, 2011 world population reached 7 billion and as per estimate and all programs related to control population, the world population will be upto 8 billion,” the BMO said.He said: “our country population at present is estimated at about 1.27 billion including male population at  655. 8 million while female population at 614. 4 million.” He said that said 50% of population is between 0 to 25 years in India and currently 51 births take place in a minute. “ In 2011,  population was 1.21 billion and in 2012, it was 1.22 billion,” the BMO said.“The aim is family planning, gender equality, poverty control maternal health and human rights,” adding the there are two methods for population control. “One is  permanent laproligation and vasectomy and the second one is temporary orall pills, condition iucd and counseling,” he informed.On the occasion, SDM Mendhar Romesh Kumar, Dr. V.K Gupta State polio surveillance officer and Deputy CMO Poonch also spoke. A large gathering of people and staff attended the function. (GNS)
