Trainees Of The 71th Training Batch Of The Department Of Soil And Water Conservation, Punjab Visited Regional Research Station, Ballowal Saunkhri

Officials from Department of Soil and Water Conservation visited the Regional Research Station, Ballowal Saunkhri for one day training programme. The training programme was attended by 29 Agricultural Sub-Inspectors and Surveyors along with 03 officers of the Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Punjab. 

The training coordinator Dr. Gurvinder Singh, Extension Scientist formally welcomed all the officers and trainee participants and apprised them about the activities of the training programme. Dr. Kanwar Barjinder Singh, Director of Regional Research Station, Ballowal Saunkhri imparted information about the mandates of the Regional Research Station and research and extension activities being done for the welfare of farmers. 

He also shed light on constraints of agriculture in Kandi region of Punjab. Dr. Abrar Yousuf, Scientist (Soil and Water Engineering) gave detailed information about the ongoing research activities related to soil and water conservation at the Regional Research Station, Ballowal Saunkhri. 

He discussed about the rainwater harvesting, runoff and soil erosion measurement and simulation and application of remote sensing and GIS for soil and water conservation. Dr. Varun Attri, Silviculturist discussed various practices for soil conservation through forest and other vegetation management. Dr. Amin Bhat, Soil Scientist apprised the trainees about the importance of soil testing and water testing.

Sh. Dharamvir Singh, SDSCO appreciated the arrangements made by the research station and discussed about the probable collaboration of the department with the research station. Sh. Devinder Kumar Kataria, SDSCO, Mrs. Balwinder Kaur, SCO and S. Indermohan Singh, ASI also took part in the discussion. The trainees visited the water harvesting structures and micro-irrigation system installed at the research farm of station.
