Poonch: District Society for Prevention of Cruelty against Animals discusses Action Plan

DC Yasin M. Choudhary stressed on measures to control Stray Dog Menace, Directs for registration, sterilization, immunization of Canines

Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, (Chairman District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, DSPCA), Yasin  M. Choudhary   today  chaired a meeting of Society for Prevention of Cruelty Against Animals here in his officer chamber and reviewed implementation of The Prevention of cruelty against animals Act 1960.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Tahir Mustafa Malik;  Additional Superintendent of Police, Mushim Ahmed; Divisional Forest Officer, Poonch, Suresh Manda; Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Younis; Superintendent Veterinary Hospital, Dr.Shaid Latief; Warden WildLife, Executive Officer MC Poonch and other concerned officers were present.

During the meeting, the DC directed for provisioning of logistic facilities, such as operation theatres and post-operative wards for the sterilization and immunization of stray dogs. The CEO Municipality was directed to ensure cleanliness of the premises and installation of necessary lights in post-operative wards.

The officials also discussed the registration of the Canines and Pet Population in the Municipal areas of Poonch and Surankote.The Deputy Commissioner directed the AHD to update the managing body of the society by including in it animal lovers and persons directly and indirectly involved in animal welfare. 

The renovation of designated animal shelter at Kankote and the need of an Ambulance /rescue van was also discussed in the meeting.The Animal Husbandry Officer was directed to carry out the registration of the equine population, while the CEO Municipal Council and EO Municipal Committee were tasked with the registration of all pet-shops and pet animals in their respective jurisdictions.

The Animal Husbandry Department was also directed to provisionally register dairy farms and regularly inspect the animals in these farms to ensure proper facilities are being provided to them. Additionally, the department was directed to provide a landline telephone number for receiving distress calls pertaining to illness or injury to stray animals for the general public.

The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals announced plans to create awareness regarding animal rights and fundraising through public donations. The officials emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among all allied departments and pledged to work together towards their implementation.

In his concluding remarks, the District Development Commissioner urged officials to take quick decisions on matters under their jurisdictions and reiterated the need for coordinated efforts among all allied departments.
