Committee learns practicality of cannabis cultivation at Doiwala in Uttarakhand

The committee formed to study cannabis cultivation for industrial and non-narcotic use led by Chairman Revenue Minister, Jagat Singh Negi visited Doiwala cannabis cultivation farm in Uttarakhand, today.  During the visit, the committee learns the viability of cannabis cultivation in the state.

The committee members obtained detailed information about cannabis farming, its uses, its varieties and the complexities of the farming.  They also inspected the cannabis fields and saw the workings of the farm practically. 

Besides this, the team also took detailed information about the marketing perspectives of the cannabis products being sold in the market. The Representative of the farm also briefed them about the technical and legal aspects involved in the production and marketing of cannabis.

The committee also discussed its benefits to the government as well as to the growers. Apart from this they also held a detailed discussion over the legal provisions besides the facilities being provided to the growers and how it will play important role in strengthening their economy. 

During the visit, Jagat Singh Negi said that the Government of Himachal Pradesh is also planning to legalize Cannabis farming for which every small aspect was being considered. Only after conducting a detail studying and discussion the committee will submit its report to the Government and the decision will be taken on the basis of the report submitted.

He said that the subtropic areas are best for the cultivation of cannabis and wild animal poses no threat to the crop. The government will make its best industrial and medicinal use for which efforts would be made to ensure the quality cultivation of Cannabis in the State.

Earlier, the team also met the Forest and Higher Education Minister of Uttarakhand, Subodh Uniyal and took his valuable views and guidance.Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Sunder Singh Thakur, MLAs, Dr. Hans Raj, Surender Shourie, Keval Singh Pathania, Dr. Janak Raj, Puran Chand Thakur and other representatives of the cannabis cultivation farm were also present during the visit.
