Dr Balbir Singh flags off bicycle rally

o mark the end of the 7th United Nations Road Safety Week, a state level bicycle rally was organised by District Administration and Patiala Police, at the closing on sunday. The underlying theme of rally was to prioritise the well being of cyclists and Non Motorised Transport (NMT).

The bicycle rally was flagged off by Dr. Balbir Singh, Minister of health and family welfare of Punjab, from polo ground. Minister said that it is a symbolic gesture to shift our focus to the Non Motorised Transport (NMT), bicycles etc and urged the citizens of Patiala to use newly built Cycle Corridor from Theekriwala chownk to YPS School, a novel initiative by District Administration.

Health Minster Dr Balbir Singh also mentioned that every year thousands of people become victims of road accidents in India. Due to disobedience of road safety rules, many people die on the roads. To prevent road accidents, it is necessary to strictly follow the traffic rules. Citizens of patiala, students from different schools and sports participated in the bicycle rally.

On the occasion Col J.V., Balwinder Saini, ADC Gurpreet Singh Thind, AIG Des Raj, SP Harwant Kaur and Chand Singh, Dist Road Safety Engineer Shawinderjit Brar, DSP Karamvir Toor along with representatives of NGOs and others were present.
