NCSC begins two-day review meeting of the Bihar government

NCSC delegation, led by chairman Vijay Sampla, reviews progress of various economic and social welfare schemes for SC community

To protect the Scheduled Caste community against the atrocities and to ensure their rights, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes began the two-day annual state-level review meeting of the Bihar government on Thursday.

The NCSC delegation, led by its Chairman Vijay Sampla, conducted the first meeting with scheduled castes members of parliament (MPs), members of legislative assembly (MLAs), and EX-MPs/MLAs, as well as representatives of Scheduled Castes Welfare Associations and NGOs.

The leaders apprised Sampla and NCSC about the increasing atrocities against the SC community in the state and how the community is facing institutional discrimination and social exclusion.Post lunch, NCSC started the official round with the representatives of the Bihar government in which chief secretary, principal secretaries and other senior officers of various ministries and departments were present.

NCSC reviewed the progress of various schemes for economic and social welfare of scheduled castes, centrally sponsored schemes, central sector schemes, and state government’s schemes including—housing, land, employment, post-matric scholarships and other related schemes meant for scheduled castes.

In the last meeting, NCSC monitored service safe guards provided to the SCs under the constitution. During the review meeting, Vijay Sampla was accompanied by NCSC vice chairman Arun Halder; and commission members Subhash Ramnath Pardhi and Anju Bala.

Meanwhile, on the second day (19 May) of the review meeting, Vijay Sampla and NCSC officials will review the cases of atrocities against the SC community, which are registered and disposed of by the police or court under SC/ST PoA Act (as amended).
