Congress candidate for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election, Karamjit Kaur Chaudhary said on Monday that the lawyers are an important pillar of India’s democracy and justice system and it is their primary duty to uphold the constitutional values.

Accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Ranjeeta Ranjan and District Congress chief Rajinder Beri, Chaudhary attended a function organized by the Jalandhar Bar Association where she paid tribute to Late Kanwal Raj Sachdeva, an eminent advocate and former president of the association.

Addressing the meeting, Chaudhary expressed her gratitude to the lawyers in attendance, many of whom were her former students and colleagues of her late husband, Santokh Singh Chaudhary. She said she was happy to see that her students had become successful lawyers and were serving the society with their legal acumen.

Karamjit Chaudhary said her husband had also studied law and had started his career as an advocate. To better serve the public, she said, he shifted to politics, but law was his first love and he continued to raise his voice for the causes of the legal community.

She urged Jalandhar’s legal community to vote for her in the upcoming election. She said, "you are responsible for upholding the rule of law and ideal constitutional values in society. My husband breathed his last while calling upon the people to protect the soul of India and her Constitution.

I seek your support to continue the dreams and aspirations of my late husband, Chaudhary Santokh Singh, and to work towards the betterment of the people of Jalandhar."In response, the lawyers in attendance pledged their support to Chaudhary's campaign.

The show of support from the legal community is a significant boost for Chaudhary's campaign, as she looks to secure a victory in the by-election on May 10th.Bar association president Aditya Jain, former president Om Parkash, Manjit Inder Singh Sood, and Manjit Bhogal were among those present on the occasion.
