Ex-Navy Officer cracks Punjab PCS, Appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police

After serving the Indian Navy for close to 12 years Preet Kanwar Singh (35) has donned a new role as the    Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Punjab Police Services.

"Uniform has always     been my first preference. As an Officer, I got the chance to serve   onboard INS Ganga (A Naval Frigate Warship), on INS Khanjar, and in the Directorate of Aircraft Systems and Engineering (DASE) New Delhi. I also served as the Staff Officer to three consecutive

Asisstant Chief of Naval staff (Air Materiel), a post headed by Two Star rank Officer and requires high degree of professional acumen, Administration skills and extensive liaison with different departments," said Preet, recalling his journey in the Indian Navy. 

"I never wanted to waste the experience which I had gained in uniform. Therefore, even before retirement, I had decided to join the civil services," said Preet, who retired as a Lieutenant Commander in 2022. 

Preet belongs to the royal city of Patiala and is presently posted at Sahibzada Ajeet Singh Nagar, Mohali and stays along with his wife Jaskiran Kaur and 4.5 year  old son Jaskanwar Singh.He secured 15th rank in the Ex-Servicemen (General) category in his first attempt in the examination conducted by the Punjab Public Service Commission.

"l had been preparing for the civil services for the last one year. My stint in the Navy particularly the Naval headquarters where our primary role is to carry out staff work helped me in the mains answer writing. During my interview, I was grilled on various aspects but the confidence, perseverance and determination is what I feel the interview panel liked in me. 

My experience with the Navy will surely help me in discharging my duties as a civil servant.'' said Preet. whose father Sh. Jagjit singh is a Businessman. I would fail in my duty if I don’t mention the hardwork put in by my mother Smt. Rajinder Kaur (housemaker) in making me the person I am today.

Preet is among the two candidates from Patiala to qualify the examination in the Ex-servicemen (general) category. Gurpreet Singh an Ex- Major from Indian army secur·ed  8 th rank in DSP list, is currently under training at the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Police academy, Phillaur.
