LPU’s Women Cricketers lifted All India Inter University (W) Championship Trophy in Mysore

Competing on national level for the first time, LPU team defeated three-time champion MDU Rohtak and six-time champion VBS Purvanchal University

Women cricketers of Lovely Professional University (LPU) have emerged “Champions” in the All India Inter-University Cricket Tournament for Women 2022-23. Competing on national level for the first time; LPU team revealed its dexterous bowling, batting & fielding skills to bag the championship trophy.

The championship was organized under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) at JSS KSCA Cricket Grounds in Mysore city. LPU team’s captain Sonal Kalal is declared the best bowler; player Sumitra best batter; and, Nazama as woman of the match. 

The format of the matches was based on the one- day international cricket tournaments.LPU women’ team defeated three-time champion Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU) Rohtak (Haryana) by 4 wickets in finals and six-time champion VBS Purvanchal University Jaunpur (Uttar Pradesh) in quarter finals. 

Prior to this, LPU also defeated another strong considered Savitribai Phule University (Pune) team in the semi-finals.Encouraging the women cricketers of the university, LPU Pro Chancellor Rashmi Mittal invoked them to keep alive fiery sports’ spirit and skills within to further earn international accolades.

In the final match, on winning the toss, LPU captain put MD University team to bat, which scored 126 runs in 25 overs losing all the 10 wickets. The LPU team reached the target of 127 runs in 24.1 overs with a loss of only 6 wickets, thus defeating the rival team with 4 wickets in the prestigious finals of the championship.

LPU’s Najama scored 65 runs, thus becoming the highest scorer in the finals. Sonal and Shivani took three wickets (by allowing 17 runs) and two wickets (by allowing 24 runs) respectively. GNDU Amritsar remained at 3rd place.
