Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal today called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and briefed him about the mischief being played by the Congress party to pide and weaken the Sikh community by propping up the demand for a separate management committee to manage Sikh affairs in Haryana.Explaining the entire issue to the Union Home Minister, Mr Sukhbir Badal said there was no need or provocation for the Haryana government to get involved in religious matters. He said the Congress was however deliberately stoking religious sentiments in an attempt to split the Sikh community in line with its age old pide and rule strategy. The SAD President also stressed that it should be left to the Sikh community to manage its own religious affairs and that no State government should play politics by meddling in religious matters. He described what was happening in Haryana as a political game being played by the Congress at the behest of its President Sonia Gandhi.

The Congress has always been anti Sikh and it has availed of every conceivable opportunity to pide the community”, he said adding it was unfortunate that even after losing the popular mandate, the Congress had still not forgotten its enmity with the Sikh community.Badal also briefed the Union minister that there was huge resentment in the Sikh community worldwide against the manner in which the Congress was interfering in Sikh affairs in Haryana. He said the Sikh community was distressed that the Congress was politicising a religious issue and trying to fan discord in the community which was not in national interest. He also disclosed that the SAD on its part had appealed to the Sikh community at large to maintain calm as it was confident that the central government would do its utmost to ensure that the community was allowed to decide its own affairs.Meanwhile, a party spokesman said the Union Minister expressed satisfaction with the briefing given by the SAD president and assured him that the centre would take due care of the concerns of the Sikh community.
