CM Gives Nod For Five-Member Panel To Monitor Prices Of Essential Commodities

Move Aimed At Ensuring Price Stabilization

On the directions of the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, the state government today consituted a five-member committee under the chairmanship of Secretary Planning to monitor the prices of essential commodities in the state.Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said that the other members of the committee would be Director Food & Civil Supplies, Director Horticluture and General Manager Marketing, Punjab Mandi Board while the Economic Advisor would be its member secretary.The decision to constitute of this committee was taken in a meeting held on July 02, 2014 under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Mr. Sarvesh Kaushal. The Chief Minister also gave his nod to immediately issue a notification for the said committee, which play a crucial role in ensuring price stabilization, this afternoon.     The committee was mandated to oversee the prices of various commodities on the daily basis in the state besides reviewing the action taken by the different authorities under the Essential Commodities Act. The Committee would also review the stock and supply position of essential commodities viz. vegetables, pulses, edible oil, milk etc. in the state. Apart from this, the committee would also ensure the supply of essential commodities under the public distribution system.
