Governor inaugurates International Minjar Fair

Urmila Singh, Governor inaugurated the traditional eight day long International Minjar Fair by unfurling the customary Minjar flag at Chamba today.Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Singh said that Indian culture stands unique among all the cultures of the world because it has preserved its distinct identity over the years without letting change effect its glorious past. She said that despite being a modern nation in all respects, it is culturally still the same which reflects in the rich traditions, art, music and its colourful fairs and festivals.

Governor said fairs and festivals were the identity of Himachal Pradesh which showcase the rich culture of ‘Dev Bhoomi’ in varied colours and added that people of the state deserve appreciation for preserving their rich cultural heritage in tact. She said that such celebrations not only uphold the unique cultural traditions but also strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and fraternity besides infusing zeal and happiness among the people. She said that they also make young generation aware of their culture and instil a sense of pride and dignity in them.

She said that the natural beauty, historical and cultural traditions of Chamba attract tourists from home and abroad in large numbers and generate awareness about the culture of the state. There is also large scope for tourism in the area, she added.

Stressing upon the need for protecting environment, Smt. Singh said that it was extremely important to sensitize people about environment protection as hill states were very vulnerable and prone to natural disasters. We all should contribute towards keeping hills clean, green and safe, she added.Governor was honoured with shawl and memento on the occasion. 

She also inaugurated the sports competitions of Minjar fair and visited exhibition stalls put up by various Government departments, Boards and Corporations.Sandeep Kadam, Deputy Commissioner, Chamba welcomed the Governor and detailed out the highlights of the fair. 

Present among others on the occasion were Shri Thakur Singh Bharmouri, Forest Minister, Shri Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, CPS, Shri B. K. Chauhan, Local MLA, Smt Anita Thakur, Chairperson Nagar Parishad, officers of the district administration and prominent people of the town.
