Akhtar also spoke about the importance of maintaining friendly relations and promoting peaceful and friendly talks between both countries by saying,  "People who run the country know better. My information is limited. We in India have very limited information about Pak people. Same is the case with them". Adding to this,  "We should not blame each other. It will solve nothing. The atmosphere is tense, that should be doused," Akhtar said.

It all started when a video of Akhtar went viral on social media in which he was seen slamming Pakistan over 26/11 attacks by saying,  "We are people from Mumbai, we have seen the attack on our city. They did not come from Norway or Egypt. They are still roaming freely in your country. So if there is a grievance in the heart of a Hindustani, you should not feel offended."

He also talked about the gestures, the way Inidans open their hearts to Pakistani artists but they did not get the same for Indian artists in Pakistan. He said, “When Faiz Sahab visited, he was received like a very important visitor. It was broadcast all over. We hosted big functions of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Mehdi Hasan. You never organised a function for Lata Mangeshkar.”
