DC Srinagar Mohammad Aijaz Asad inaugurates Road Safety Week under "Swachhata Pakhwada-2023"

In connection with Road Safety Week being observed from January 11 to January 17 under "Swachhata Pakhwada-2023", the Deputy Commissioner(DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad today flagged off Cab rally on Traffic Awareness campaign from TRC Corridor with a view to promote responsible driving to reduce road accidents in Srinagar District. 

SSP Traffic City, Muzaffar Ahmad Shah and Regional Transport Officer(RTO), Kashmir, Sajid Yehaya Naqash, besides SP East were present on the occasion. 

After flagging off the Cab Rally, the Deputy Commissioner presided over the awareness programme on observance of “Road Safety Week” organized by RTO, Kashmir at Sumo Stand, Tourist Reception Center(TRC) to create awareness among general public and Transporters to improve the road safety measures and give an opportunity to all stakeholders to contribute in the burning issue of in the society.  

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that observing Road Safety Week provides an opportunity to all stakeholders including Administration, Transporters, Commuters, Pedestrians and public in general to contribute in reducing road accidents by strictly adhering to traffic safety measures to save precious human lives.

The DC said road accidents is a critical issue that has devastated many families and it is imperative for every citizen to follow Traffic rules in letter and spirit for their own safety and for the safety of others.

The DC urged youngsters not to indulge in rash driving and always keep in mind that they have a family waiting for them to come home. The DC stressed on spreading awareness on road safety and following traffic rules. 

He said Road safety awareness campaigns/precautionary measures should not be restricted to this week but must continue to be followed throughout the year. The DC also underlined the importance and use of seat belts that help to save lives during untoward accidents. 

He emphasized on ensuring fitness of vehicles as per guidelines for safe driving. Giving details about the activities being held under Weeklong Road Safety campaign, the RTO, Kashmir, Sajid Yehaya Naqash said that besides organizing seminars, debates and rallies in collaboration of different educational institutions and organizations on road safety measures, special drives on wrong side driving, overloading, on-site pedestrian safety and special camps related to traffic awareness are being conducted across City.

During the programme the participants were also familiarized about the traffic signs and rules to be followed through Posters and banners on road safety. Officers of the Regional Transport Office, Kashmir and Traffic Department, besides President, Taxi Stand, TRC, Union members, senior Citizens and other concerned were present on the occasion.
