Pratibha Singh urges for one more Central University in the State

Member of Parliament Mrs Pratibha Singh has requested the Central Government to set up an additional Central University in Himachal Pradesh on the pattern of Jammu and Kashmir.Mrs Pratibha Singh met Union Human Resources Development Minister Dr. M. Mangapati Pallam Raju in New Delhi and told him that additional Central University should be set up mainly for the snow bound tribal areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Pangi and Bharmour besides hilly areas of Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmour and Solan districts to provide quality education to the youth of the State.Pratibha Singh said that setting up this University for tribal areas would further fulfil commitment of the UPA Government's plan to exponentially expand the higher education system in remote, backward and tribal areas which remain neglected due to historic reasons.

She said that it was necessary to establish two separate Central Universities, one each in Kangra region and another in Mandi region for providing quality education to the students near their native places in the State. She also demanded liberal funding for the construction work of various infrastructure of the Kangra Central University to develop world class modern infrastructure and added that two Central Universities in the State would provide more chances of admissions to the local students communities who at present were forced to move to metropolitan cities to pursue higher education in Central Universities.

Pratibha Singh also demanded for the setting up of satellite campus/ branch campus of prestigious fine arts colleges at Kangra, Chamba, Shimla and Kullu districts in the State to promote Kangra, Chamba and Tribal Paintings to develop Commercial Centres of the Pahari Paintings which were in great demand at International Markets.Mrs Pratibha Singh told the Union Minister that drop out rate at elementary stage of education would be brought down to zero level in the State in 12th Five Year Plan by achieving hundred percent enrolment of the children between 6-14 years of the age .

Pratibha Singh said that one model school on the analogy of Kendriya Vidyala would be set up in each district by actively involving private sector under PPP mode during 12th Five Year Plan in the State. She told that private sector would be actively associated for upgradation and improvement of infrastructure in education institutes situated in industrial areas of the State.
