Chief Wildlife Warden inaugurates GIS training

A training course on Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) applications has been organised for field staff of the Department of Wildlife Protection. 

The training course being conducted by the Department of Environment and Remote Sensing was inaugurated by Chief Wildlife Warden, J&K, Suresh Kumar Gupta. Speaking at the inaugural of training, the Chief Wildlife Warden said that the Department has to meet the challenges of wildlife management, conservation and handling of Human-Wildlife conflict. 

He mentioned that use of technology shall increase the effectiveness of departmental staff.  He advised the participants to take the benefit of programme and have fruitful interactions with the resource persons.

He commended the Department of Environment and Remote Sensing for providing the facilities and resource persons for the training. S. Rakesh Kumar, Director, Department of Environment and Remote Sensing assured the participants to provide quality inputs with respect to use of GIS and GPS technologies, so that they can efficiently work in their respective field. 

He mentioned that his department is continuously organizing such programmes for various stakeholder departments as and when such requests are received. Dr. Kumar M.K, Regional Wildlife Warden, Jammu mentioned that this is the fourth such capacity building programme for the wildlife staff of Jammu region being conducted by Department of Environment and Remote Sensing during the last two years. 

In his welcome address he appreciated the Department of Environment and Remote Sensing for continuous support in this regard. Anil Kumar Atri, Wildlife Warden, Jammu presented the vote of thanks. The programme was conducted by Dr. Majid Farooq, Scientist, Department of Environment and Remote Sensing in coordination with Saleem-ul-Haq, Headquarter Officer.
