International Anti Corruption Day is celebrated every year to spread awareness about corruption. The purpose of this day is to raise public awareness about the harmful effects of corruption. The Day is celebrated on 9th December.

The Day serves as a call for tackling corruption as it is the right and responsibility of every individual, and only through cooperation and involvement of each and every person. Corruption has negative impacts on every aspect of society.

Preventing corruption, promoting transparency and strengthening institutions is crucial if the targets foreseen in the Sustainable Development Goals are to be met.Corruption has spread all over the world like a termite, which has hollowed out the best of systems.

Many countries of the world are still facing the brunt of corruption and let's ensure to build a society that is corruption free and welcome peace, security and development of our nation.

Corruption is one of the most complex social, political and economic phenomena, which has affected all the countries of the world including India.

The importance of International Anti-Corruption Day is to advocate about malpractice globally and to tell how and why one should avoid it. The day also plays an important role in anti-corruption groups, who spread awareness about this malpractice and share the means and ways to avoid corruption in their workplace.

Corruption also affects the economic development of the country in many ways. The history of International Anti-Corruption Day begins on 31 October 2003, when the General Assembly adopted the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

Since then the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) was designated as the secretariat for the Conference of the States Parties (Resolution 58/4). The United Nations General Assembly then designated 9 December as Anti-Corruption Day, while the convention came into force in December 2005.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the entire global community (UNODC) are the main leaders in creating awareness about anti-corruption practices.According to the United Nations Development Programme, it is estimated that 10 times the amount of funds lost due to corruption in developing countries would otherwise be used in their official developmental assistance. We all know that by eliminating corruption, and better work can be done towards the development of the world.

For this we all have to unite. In such a situation, the theme of International Anti-Corruption Day this year is to unite the world against corruption. States, government officials, civil servants, law enforcement officials, media representatives, private sector, civil society, academics, public and youth alike have a role to play in uniting the world against corruption, only then the country can be corruption free, peaceful, Can be taken forward on the path of security and development.
