DC Asks CWC To Play A Proactive Role To Protect The Rights Of Children In Need Of Care

Also Directs To Prepare Proposal To Set Up Separate Shelter Home For Specially Abled Children

Deputy Commissioner  Jaspreet Singh today called upon the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to play a proactive role for protection of child rights in an effective manner.

Presiding over a quarterly review meeting here at the district administrative complex, the Deputy Commissioner said it was the need of the hour to safeguard the rights of children.He said that CWC aimed to provide a safe and secure environment for the overall development of children in need of care and protection.

Mr Singh said that the CWC is also the final authority to dispose off cases for the care, protection, treatment, development and rehabilitation of the children as well as to provide for their basic needs.

The DC while reviewing the progress of CWC directed the officials to prepare a detailed proposal to set up separate shelter home for specially abled children so that children with special needs could be provided due care. 

He also directed the officials to send this proposal to Women and Child Development Department for approval while laying stress on maximum participation of non government organisations in child welfare schemes.

The Deputy Commissioner was informed in the meeting that CWC has disposed of a total of 38 cases pertaining to custody, rehabilitation, protection, shelter of children during last quarter i.e. July to September 2022 while 33 cases are lying pending with the committee which is being listened on a regular basis. 

The cases of adoption were also discussed in the meetings of CWC. On the occasion, District Child Protection Officer Ajay Bharti, Chairman CWC JK Gulati, Legal Probation Officer Sandeep Kumar, DIO Dr. Rakesh Chopra, DSP Harjeet Singh, members of committee, social workers and representatives of government departments were also present.
