‘My Town My Pride 2.0’ programme commences on ebullient note in Kathua

Initiative aims at transforming towns through active public participation : Prerna Puri

The second phase of "My Town My Pride" programme (MTMP 2.0) today began in Kathua on spirited note wherein people from all walks of life participated in the inaugural day events. At district headquarters, Commissioner Secretary, Information and Information Technology, Prerna Puri, was the Visiting Officer, launched the event at Town Hall.

She was accompanied by Regional Director, Survey and Land Records, Nawab Din, Managing Director SIDCO, Raman Kumar Kesar. The Visiting Officers inspected the stalls established by different departments to disseminate information regarding various schemes and programmes, registration counters etc.

While addressing the gathering, Prerna Puri took stock of issues and concerns of councillors. " MTMP 2.0 aims at empowering the Urban Local Bodies by reaching out to the urban population, with governance at their doorsteps and ensuring on spot redressal of their issues and grievances besides transforming towns through active public participation”, she maintained.

The Visiting Officer laid foundation stone for Multi Storey Parking Complex at MC Kathua besides handing over an e-Rickshaw to the beneficiary of the government's subsidy scheme. She also participated in the Greh Parvesh ceremony under PMAY-U. 

At MC Lakhanpur, Dr Mushtaq Ahmed, Special Secretary, Information, presided over the proceedings of MTMP 2.0 as Visiting Officer. While interacting with ULB members and public, Dr Mushtaq said that this programme is backbone for urban development and formulation of master plans in ULBs according to the popular aspirations of the people by making them catalysts in transforming urban landscape.

Addressing the school students of GHS Lakhanpur, Dr Mushtaq emphasized on the need of educating students about ill effects of drug abuse and adoption of healthy lifestyle. He also laid stress on inculcating values of sanitation and cleanliness amongst the students at the early age so that message that propagated widely.

Dr Mushtaq also handed over employment cards, PM SVANidhi sanctioned cases, land passbooks among the beneficiaries. While inaugurating the first day proceedings of MTMP 2.0 at MC Hiranagar, the Visiting Officer Indu Kanwal Chib (MD JKRLM) said public outreach in towns is aimed at strengthening grass-root democracy and ensuring service delivery at doorsteps.

MD JKRLM also distributed POSHAN tokri (nutrition basket) among the Nursing Mothers/ Pregnant Women besides presenting keys to PMAY-U beneficiaries. She interacted with ULB members, government functionaries and also listened to the grievances of the public.

At MC Parole, the Visiting Officer, Nagender Jamwal, addressed the school students and appreciated them for their performance in extra-curricular activities. He said that besides curricular activities extracurricular activities play a major role in shaping the life of individuals. 

He urged the students to stay away from any form of drug or addiction and focus on realization of goals with determination, concentration and perseverance. The Visiting Officer also laid foundation stone for Solid Waste Management shed at Parole in MC Parole and inspected ULB assets, witnessed sports events at GHS parole etc.   

At MC Basohli, the Visiting Officer Rahul Sharma, Transport Commissioner, appealed the people to take MTMP 2.0 as an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to make a clean and green urban landscape by adopting proper segregation of waste at source. 

He also emphasized on judicious use of drinking water which is depleting rapidly due to overuse and wastage. Rahul Sharma disclosed that the government is coming up with a people friendly initiative to provide transportation permits to commercial vehicles within 30 days time easing out the lives of the owners of commercial vehicles.

At MC Billawar, Visiting Officer Sanjeev M Gadkar (CEO AB-PMJAY) said that ‘My Town My Pride 2.0' is an opportunity to discuss and derive solutions to existing needs, issues and for effective delivery of services at every doorstep.

The Visiting Officer interacted with ULB members and said that Urban-Rural connect is vital for the wholesome development of Jammu and Kashmir. During the day-long proceedings, the visiting officer met the locals, handed over wheelchairs, land passbooks, sanctioned cases of PMAY-U besides inspecting various Government Offices, stalls etc.
