A piece of breaking news has made the headlines. It has been reported that former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president and senior Akali leader Bibi Jagir Kaur has been suspended from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). The news has been reported and informed by none other than senior SAD leader Sikander Singh Maluka at a press conference.

It has been said that Bibi Jagir Kaur has been doing some anti-party activities. The disciplinary committee of the party made the decision to suspend Bibi.

Earlier this week, SAD leaders Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema and Surjit Singh Rakhra called the previous head of the SGPC to urge her to "go by the party line" and wait for the party to decide whether to nominate her for the position of SGPC president. Bibi, however, made it plain that she will run for office and claimed to have informed party leader Sukhbir Singh Badal of her plans in advance.

Further, it has also been noted that she has given herself 48 hours to stop all anti-party activities, if she does not, then the party will expel her. A few leaders had protested to the committee about Bibi Jagir Kaur's anti-party activities over the previous few days, alleging that she was pressing them for votes.

For the unversed, the elections for the head and executive members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) are going to be held on November 9. Bibi Jagir Kaur, who has been the head of the SGPC three times, is preparing to contest against the party herself this time. Party leaders were continuously pressurising Jagir Kaur not to contest the elections, but it is being said that Jagir did not agree to it.
