GCW Udhampur organises Lecture on Gender Sensitization and Sexual Harassment : Everything You Need To Know

To generate awareness among the students, Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH) Of Government College for women Udhampur organized a lecture on the topic Gender sensitization and sexual  harassment : everything you need to know at college campus here today under the supervision and guidance of Principle of the College  Dr Monika Sharma.

The Resource Person on the occasion was Assistant Professor HOD sociology Dr. Usha Sharma. In her address she highlighted Gender sensitization is the process of creating awareness regarding gender equality issues and modifying the behaviour and views that people hold about themselves and other genders. 

This process helps in examining people’s “personal attitudes and beliefs and questioning the ‘realities’ they thought they knew.” She further informed that Gender sensitization is very important in these changing times. 

Women and men both play a key role at home, office and in society, she added.Dr Usha said that Sexual harassment is a much broader term than sexual assault, and refers to a wider variety of inappropriate sexual behaviours.

Sexual harassment can include sexual contact - like unwanted touching, hugging, or kissing etc.She also talked about the empowerment and status of women in the present scenario. She elaborated the various government schemes available for women. 

She also shared the Helpline Number with the audience. She focused on legal rights of women and informed the students about Zero FIR ,Legal Services authority etc.The proceeding of the programm was conducted by NCC cadets  Manvi Bsc. Sem 1 and Astha Bsc sem 1 .

The program ended with the formal vote of thanks presented by Dr. Seema Sharma.The event was organized by the collective efforts of CASH members, Prof. Sarika Mahajan, Dr Ashok Kumar, Prof.Tania Akhter, Prof. Shallu Jasrotia and Prof.Yash Kumar. 

The Other faculty present in the event were Dr.Mool Raj, Dr Rajinder Singh, Prof. Yash Kumar, Prof. Pooja Bharti, Prof. Sanjay Kumar  and a large number of students.
