DLSA Reasi organises awareness event on Menstrual Hygiene

Under the aegis of NALSA and as per the Action Plan issued by the J&K Legal Services Authority (JKLSA) for the month of October, 2022 and also under able guidance and supervision of R.N.Watal, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Reasi, Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Reasi, in collaboration with Department of Health, on Wednesday organised an awareness program on Menstrual Hygiene to mark the observance of “International Girl Child Day” with this year’s theme “Our time is now-our rights, our future”, here in the Conference Hall DC Office (Mini Secretariat) Reasi.

The program was attended by approximately 200 girl students of Government Higher Secondary School (Girls) Reasi and also Plvs of DLSA Reasi. The program was kick-started with the display of a video on how to take care of “Menstrual Hygiene” during the Menstrual Cycle.

Dr. Usha Kiran (District Immunization Officer, Reasi), Dr. Sneh Lata (Senior Medical Officer  Reasi) and Dr. Meenali Rajput (Medical Officer) Reasi were  the resource persons in the Program.Dr. Usha Kiran spoke on Problems  faced by adolescent girls  during the Menstrual Cycle. 

She also talked about the weekly Iron supplementation scheme and Ayushman Scheme of Government and ended the lecture by presenting a song titled “Mere Ghar Ayai ek Nanhi Pari.”Dr. Sneh Lata also deliberated upon the issues related to Menstrual Cycle and how a nutritious and healthy diet can overcome all the issues related to adolescent girls.

Dr. Meenali Rajput spoke on Myths related to menstrual Cycle and also shared must do tips to Keep  Menstrual Cycle check with the participants. She also recited a poem on “Menstural Hygiene”.The proceedings of the program were conducted by Panel Advocate Shazia Akhter Punjabi whereas vote of thanks was presented by Advocate Ms. Rashi Baru. Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Reasi also addressed the gathering and have an interactive session with the girl students. 

The objective of organizing this awareness camp was to increase awareness among adolescent girls on menstrual hygiene, to increase access to and use of high quality sanitary napkins by adolescent girls and also to ensure safe disposal of sanitary napkins in an environmentally friendly manner.
