Many Non-Hindu players are targeted, and it’s becoming a trend in India so far

Recently, India has lost two consecutive matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. And in the nail-biting match, Arshdeep Singh was targeted for India’s loss. Though everyone knows Singh bowled well, due to the one catch he dropped, he has been criticised. A few seconds after India’s loss to Pakistan, Arshdeep Singh has been claimed as ‘Khalistani’.

Moreover, this is not the first time any Non-Hindu cricketer has been attacked for his religion. But earlier, Mohammad Shami also became a victim of hate campaigns and vicious comments. When India lost the match against Pakistan in October 2021, he became another bowler who was abused after the team’s loss to Pakistan at the same venue. Shami was targeted for being a Muslim, with questions being raised over his loyalty and patriotism becoming of his religion.

The national team's captain at the time, Virat Kohli, criticised the way Shami was treated. “To me, attacking someone over their religion is the most pathetic thing a human being can do,” Kohli said at a press conference last year, despite an attempt by the team’s media manager to avoid answering the question.

There’s a reason we are playing on the field and not those spineless people. Many people hide their identity in social media, then try to troll the players and it is the lowest point in their life.”

Not only cricketers, but Muslim and Sikh students were also brutally assaulted by Hindu groups for their religion. And people think that because of their religion, India loses to their neighbour players.
