During his stay at Gurugram, Haryana Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal inspected the ongoing construction work at Atul Kataria Chowk and, taking public convenience into account, ordered to open the 731-meter-long 4 lane flyover built on Old Delhi Road along with the service roads for the commuters to facilitate better traffic flow and connectivity.

Formal inauguration of the project will be done afterwards. Present on the occasion were Chief Executive Officer, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Sh Sudhir Rajpal, Commissioner of Police Smt. Kala Ramachandran, Deputy Commissioner Gurugram Sh Nishant Yadav and other senior officials of GMDA.

CM said that ever since the BJP government came to power in Haryana, due care and attention is being given to Gurugram. Flyovers and underpasses, elevated roads had been got constructed to ease traffic congestion on roads here and provide relief to commuters.

Work at some places is still going on which will further ease out congestion, after all Gurugram is ‘our Icon City, we need to take care of it, development works are going on here at full swing’, said Mr Manohar Lal. He added that “Atul Kataria Chowk is amongst the busiest junctions of Gurugram city which sees a heavy flow of traffic on a daily basis.

The flyover has now been opened for commuters and will offer greater connectivity between Delhi to Gurugram via Kapashera border. The service roads have also been opened for public use. The opening of both pathways of the flyover and service roads will help in curbing traffic congestion which was earlier experienced on this intersection.”

During the visit, Haryana CM also reviewed the ongoing construction work on the 1.094-kilometer, 4 lane bi-directional underpass being constructed on road from Sheetla Mata Mandir towards Maharana Pratap Chowk. While work on the stretch towards Maharana Pratap side is complete and construction on approach towards Sheetla Mata Mandir is in progress.

Shifting of the master storm water drain from the underpass to the service road portion towards Sheetla Mandir, and the construction of the roof slab and wall of the underpass are meanwhile completed. Haryana CM directed the team to complete all remaining work of the underpass by 2nd October.

CEO of GMDA Sh Sudhir Rajpal apprised the CM that the carriageway designed for commuters travelling from Kapashera border to Gurugram Bus Stand was opened in May though the access to the traffic was of that in the opposite direction. With the opening of both carriageways on flyover and service lanes, traffic would be able to flow freely on both sides.

The project faced a delay due to the work pertaining to utility shifting and also due to the restrictions imposed during the Covid pandemic.Construction of the Atul Kataria Chowk flyover & underpass is a deposit project of GMDA being executed by Public Works Department.

The project has the administrative approval of Rs. 81.38 crore of which the expense of Rs 58.3 crore has been incurred including on utility shifting. The chowk is one of the busiest intersections in the city and sees heavy volume of traffic. The revamped Chowk will ease traffic congestion and streamline traffic flow.

It will benefit all residents travelling towards Gurugram’s major destinations such as Dwarka Expressway, Gurgaon Railway Station & Bus Stand, Kapashera border, Sheetla Mata Temple, Signature Towers as well as other important residential and commercial hubs in the city.
