Taj stresses on involvement of youth in heritage preservation

Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services & Sports, Mr. Taj Mohi ud Din today underscored the need for preserving the centuries’ old heritage and tradition of the State even as he suggested involvement of younger generation in it. Addressing a prize distribution function after the conclusion of a race-Run for Heritage-aimed at seeking the attention of people in preserving heritage, the Minister said Kashmir Valley has remained the abode of communal harmony and brotherhood for centuries which its inhabitants boast of. The Minister complimented the organizers of the race for organizing the event saying it provides food for thought for our younger generation to think about our glorious past. He hoped that events like these would prepare younger generation for coming forward in preserving our heritage. He said efforts should be made to tell our future generations about our heritage for which he said teachers can play a significant role.    In his address, Director General, Youth Services & Sports, Mr. Navin Aggarwal said Kashmir should rightfully boast of its rich heritage. He said event like this are a good effort to call the attention of people towards preserving our heritage.

The race was organized by an NGO-AICURD in collaboration with Directorate of Youth Services & Sports and Tourism Department. Scores of students from different educational institutions of the Valley participated in the race. The race started from Cheshmashahi and concluded at Nishat. Earlier, in her welcome address, organizer of the event Mrs. Rabia Baji dwelt on the objectives of holding the athletic event. She said her aim was to create awareness among youth regarding issues like drug addiction, environment, heritage etc by holding such events.Later, the Minister distributed prizes among the winning students. Mr. Muzaffar Maqbool of Boys Higher Secondary School, Mr. Haamid Aziz from Islamia School and Mr. Ishtiyaq from Boys High School, Budgam bagged the top three positions comprising Rs. 20, 000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively. J&K Yateem  Khana, Bemina and J&K Yateem Foundation, Jawaharnagar were awarded for their institutional support to the event.
