Gippy Grewal has been making a lot of headlines these days. He had spilled the beans. One of them was when he discussed producing a biopic. The actor-singer argued that biopics require complete authenticity and that Punjabis despise people who pose as members of that community while sporting fake moustaches and beards. He also gushed about how wonderful Aamir Khan was as Laal Singh Chaddha in the same sentence.

Mostly everyone is aware that  Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s recent release Laal Singh Chaddha doesn’t start at a strong box. But later, people started loving it. The film has also gone through a lot of hurdles as people have criticised and Sikhs have taken offence to Aamir Khan playing the role.

While speaking in the interview, Gippy speaks out a, “Biopic karni hai kisi ki toh proper honi karni chahiye. Aise nahi nakli daadi-mooch laga li, jaise yahan pe laga rahein log. (If you want to do a biopic then it should be proper. You can’t just fake the moustache and beard which people tend to do very often here.)”

He continued by pleading with everyone to refrain from doing this since it offends Punjabis. He went on to share, “Aur as a Punjabi jab hum Punjabi bande ki photo dekhte hain, nakli daadi and nakli everything, woh humein achha nahi lagta. (As a Punjabi, I can say that when we see a photo of a Punjabi character and if they are using fake beard and mustache, we don’t like it.)”

He then concluded and appreciated Aamir’s portrayal in Laal Singh Chaddha adding, “Jaise abhi Laal Singh Chaddha hai, Aamir Paaji pure Sardaar lagte hain. Kaam karna chahiye uss taam-jaam pe. (For example in Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan looks like a sardaar. You should work and research on that character and prep for it well before playing it.)” he concluded.

Also, he revealed that his son, Shinda Grewal, has also refused to be a part of the film. As the script demanded his haircut, which he and Shinda were not comfortable with.
