Van Mahotsav : Massive plantation drives, informative events held across district Ramban

All wings of the Forest Department in collaboration with other departments and agencies on Thursday celebrated the “Vanmahotsav” across district Ramban by organizing a series of plantation drives and informative events at different institutions. 

The Social Forestry Division Ramban organized a Seminar on environmental issues here in the Government Degree College, which was presided over by the Chairperson, District Development Council, Dr Shamshad Shan.The Chairperson along with PRIs also launched a plantation drive in the premises of GDC, Ramban in which students and officials participated.

While administering the oath of plantation and protection of plants to participants, the Chairperson urged the people of the district to participate in plantation drives besides asking the people to not use single-use plastic to save the environment.

DFO, Social Forestry Division Ramban, Mehesh Thakur informed that similar plantation cum awareness drives were also held at Government Degree College, Banihal and Government High School Sumber. Saplings, Seeds, and IEC material was also distributed among the participants. Later prizes were also distributed among the students by the Chief Guest.

The Forest Division Ramban also organized a series of plantation drives to celebrate the Vanmahoutsav. The Additional District Development Commissioner Ramban, Rajinder Sharma participated in the plantation drive at DC office complex Maitra.

Similar events were also held at different locations including CRPF Camp Chareel, GDC Gool, Dumping Yard Bani Sangaldan, GHS Seri, GHSS Ukheral, GHS Dachan, GHSS Tethar, GHSS Chamalwas in which Vice Chairperson, DDC Ramban, Rabia Beigh, BDC Chairman Shakeela Parveen, BDC Chairman, Rashida Begum, DDC member Bashir Ahmed Naik, Assistant Commandant 24Bn, Principal GDC Gool, Vice Principal GDC Banihal, Sarpanches, Panches, NGO J&K Eco Watch, students, locals participated.

It is pertinent to mention here that all the locations were virtually connected to the function held at AIIMS Vijaypur inaugurated by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor J&K UT.Similarly, the Forest Division Batote in association with Bar Association, CRPF, JK Police, RDD, and Tehsil Administration planted about 4000 plants at twenty different locations in which PRIs, school children, CRPF/ Army personnel and officials of different departments participated. This is just the beginning of the greening mission which will continue till March 2023 under Green J&K drive, the DFO, Batote informed.
