Maluka Directs For Plantation Of Maximum Saplings In Government Educational Institutions

The Punjab Education Minister Mr. Sikander Singh Maluka has underlined the need for plantation of maximum saplings in the vacant land available in the premises of 20600 government educational institutions in the state to create awareness amongst students regarding environment. Mr. Maluka said that the present monsoon season was fully conducive for plantation of seven lac saplings thereby making our contribution in making our state more green and eco-friendly. He said the state education department has decided to launch a campaign to encourage students to not only plant maximum saplings but also take care of existing plants/trees in their respective institutions. He suggested for plantation of saplings having medicinal value besides fruit bearing plants. 

He said that wherever sufficient space was not available focus should be on flower and ornamental plants. He said that for this purpose local NGOs could also be roped in.The Education Minister said that the institutions and students with better performance in plantation drive would be given appreciation awards.
