Gobindgarh Fort Amritsar Set To Be Dedicated To Touristsin September : Phillaur

The historic Gobindgarh Fort Amritsar, a legacy of Maharaja Ranjit Singh is all set to be put on International Tourist circuit as it will dedicate to the tourists in the September after completion of its first phase of restoration. Stating this here today, Mr. Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Punjab said that the conservation work of the fort has been started in a phased work and the first phase has already been completed with the financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank. The Minister said that the Fort would be opened to the Public on the eve of World Tourism Day in September and would remain opened for three days a week. Special arrangements have also been made for a heritage walk for the tourists. The walk would take the visitors on a voyage that would start from the Mukh Dawaar through the Nalwa Gate, Androoni Gate and Darbar Hall to the Tosha Khana, he added.

The Minister said that the state government would organize an exhibition and a guided tour for the tourists visiting this fort from across the world. A light and sound programme depicting the historical background and other minute details associated with Maharaja Ranjit Singh would also be planned by January next year. The Gobindgarh Fort was built in 1760 AD and was associated with the Sikh warrior king, Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The fort, named after the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, by Maharaja Ranjit Singh was in the possession of the British army for nearly 150 years.
