Expert talk at RBDCH on infertility

The Rayat Bahra Dental College and Hospital organized a guest lecture on ‘Myths and Facts About Menses and Contraception’ by Dr Balvir Kaur Ghai, infertility specialist, Bahra Hospital.Dr Balvir Kaur laid emphasis on the various significant facts and myths around menstruation. 

Feminine hygiene and reproductive health were the focus of the talk. Poor menstrual hygiene can pose serious health risks like reproductive and urinary tract infections which can result in future infertility and birth complications.

Neglecting to wash hands after changing menstrual products can spread infections, such as hepatitis B and thrush, she added.Dr Balvir Kaur said the menstrual cycle is a normal process that happens to nearly all women during their childbearing years, from puberty till menopause. 

Despite this, there are still a lot of inaccurate ideas revolving around menstruation, possibly because many women (and men) are uncomfortable talking about it.The talk was attended by all female faculty members, students and dignitaries. It was followed by an interactive session where the expert cleared queries by students and staff members.
