Extortion racket unearthed, three gangsters arrested, one injured

In a major breakthrough, SAS Nagar Police and AGTF have arrested three active members of Bhupi Rana gang from Baltana, Zirakpur. Gangster Bhupi Rana presently lodged in Patiala jail and was the main conspirator in Vicky Middukhera murder case. 

He is operating extortion racket through Ankit Rana in the state of Punjab and neighbouring state. With the arrest of these three associates namely Ranbir Singh @ Rania, Vishal @ Vikrant, and Ashish @ Aman, all resident of Barwala, Panchkula, SAS Nagar police busted extortion racket running in the area of Zirakpur and Derabassi and recovered one.

30 caliber pistol, one .32 caliber pistol along with 10 live cartridges from their possession. A case FIR No. 340 dated 17-07-2022 u/s 353,186,307,34 IPC&25 Arms Act was registered against them at PS Zirakpur, Distt SAS Nagar.

Sh. Vivek Sheel Soni, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, SAS Nagar briefed the media that Ankit Rana, close associate of gangster Bhupi Rana threatened a hotel owner in the area of PS Dhakoli and demanded extortion money. In this regard, a case FIR no 69 dated 11-07-2022 u/s 384, 506, 473, IPC &25 Arms Act was registered at PS Dhakoli, distt SAS Nagar.

SSP, SAS Nagar further briefed the media that, acting on a tip off, a joint operation was launched by the SAS Nagar police along with a team of Anti Gangster Task Force, when the above-mentioned accused sent by gangster Ankit Rana came to extort money from the hotel owner, Relax In at Baltana. 

During the course of action, gunshots were exchanged between the police personnel and gangsters after the latter opened fire on the police. One of the three men arrested, Ranvir of Barwala Haryana, sustained a gunshot wound in the leg.

SSP, SAS Nagar also added that after this incident more hotel owners also claimed that they also paid extortion money to the gang members of Ankit Rana. Further investigation is in process.
