CGC Jhanjeri, in Collaboration with National Commission for Women organized Awareness Seminar on NRI marriages -Do’s & Don’ts

Due to  the present scenario and hype of unsuccessful  NRI marriages  , Chandigarh Group Of Colleges, Jhanjeri, National Commission for Women in collaboration with Punjabi University Patiala & Panjab University, Chandigarh organized  awareness seminar on NRI marriages-Do’s & Don’ts .

The event was adorned by residents of nearby villages resulting  and  students as well . Rekha Sharma, Chairperson National Commission for Women (NCW),  Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Minister, Rural Development & Panchayats, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Dairy Development and NRI Affairs, Punjab, Prof. Arvind, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University and Meeta Rajivlichan, IAS, Member Secretary, NCW shared the solution and  Spread awareness among residents about the Do’s & Don’ts of NRI marriages.

Addressing the seminar, they talked about the problems of being trapped in fraudulent marriages is  increasing day by day in the region . This has underscored the urgent need to build safeguards and protect our women. 

They urged residents not to go  after such lucrative marriage offer, while ignoring  the common cautions which  are generally  observed in traditional matchmaking. They also  talked about the aggravated risks in such marriage being as she is isolated and  away from home in an alien land and can face  language constraints, communication problems, lack of proper information about the local criminal justice, police and legal system. 

The situation is even worsened by lack of support network of friends and family and monetary constraints which leaves the deserted wife completely helpless and stranded.Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, Minister, Rural Development & Panchayats  informed that almost 2000+ woman every month are brutally battered, assaulted, abused both mentally and physically, malnourished, confined and ill-treated just for the sake to reach abroad. 

He urged the residents to understand residents the significance of higher-studies of girls  and making them educated, capable enough to choose the right partner for themselves and spend their life with the contentment.

Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President of CGC Jhanjeri said that  Such seminars are insightful and helpful for  the people and expected  that this seminar will result in some positive effect to save lives of innumerable girls.
