Ghanshyam Thori honours domestic helper’s son who topped in 12th class

Hands over cheque of Rs 50000, assures fulsome support for future endeavours

Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori felicitated Rohit Kumar, a student of Senior Secondary School in Kamahi Devi in Talwara, Hoshiarpur who had topped by securing 496/500 marks in class 12 of the Punjab School Education Board.

While handing over a cheque of Rs 50000 to Kumar, the Deputy Commissioner lauded the former’s commitment and hard work despite severe hardships in the family. “Rohit has become a source of inspiration for other students that how he has overcome several obstacles to become the board exam topper”, Thori said and added Kumar’s story had proved famous proverb that ‘where there is a will, there is a way’. He also assured fulsome support to him for his future endeavours.

It is pertinent to mention here that Rohit’s father Sham Lal who was a mechanic had passed away few years ago and his mother Rekha Devi was used to work as domestic helper to fund his studies.Chemistry lecturer Suraj Parkash and Computer Faculty Arun Kumar and others were also present.
