Sargun Mehta Speaks On Aamir Khan's Punjabi Accent In Laal Singh Chaddha. Says, ‘He Could Have Done Better…’

Sargun Mehta and Gurnam Bhullar have been busy promoting their upcoming film Sohreyan Da Pind Aa Gya, grabbing a lot of headlines for appearing in chit-chat shows. They are considered as one of the most loved jodis of on-screen couples in Pollywood. Recently, they made headlines for making a comment on Aamir Khan’s Punjabi accent in Laal Singh Chaddha. 

Yes, you read that right. In one of the talk shows, Sargun Mehta and Gurnam Bhullar talked about the Punjabi dialect used in Hindi films. The actress admitted that Aamir could have done a bit better, but she also supported him, saying, “If Aamir would have said in pure Punjabi, nobody could have understood. If the superstar next does a Bengali film and use too much of Bengali words, then we’ll be not able to understand it”.

Sargun Mehta added, “Aamir sir is not a Punjabi and he has taken up a role. Actors are supposed to take versatile roles. I can say that he could have done a bit better but jitna bhi unhone kia hain bahot calm and mehnat lagti hain sirf utna karne mein bhi. (Whatever he has done in the film, it takes a lot to get the results. He has been calm and has worked really hard).”

Gurnam Bhullar, who will be seen opposite Sargun Mehta in the upcoming film Sohreyan Da Pind Aa Gaya, also speaks in the Punjabi accent used in Bollywood films. Talking about Laal Singh Chaddha, the Diamond star said, “Basically, it’s a national cinema that will be released pan India. The Hindi films have a mix of Punjabi, Marathi, Tamil, etc. We are the ones who point out these things. So it should not matter.”

This question was asked as to when the trailer of Laal Singh Chaddha, a much-awaited film that is a remake of Tom Hanks' classic Forrest Gump, was released, people on Twitter slammed "Aamir Khan's forced Punjabi accent" and labelled it as "cringy."
