Central Team reviews implementation of Jal Shakti Mission: Catch the Rain 2022 in Poonch

A central team comprising Director (PMU) Ministry of Defence, New Delhi, Pankaj Srivastava and Technical Officer, Shaliesh Bhatnagar reviewed the implementation of Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain 2022 in the district.
The team is on three day tour to this border district to take stock of progress achieved under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA), Catch the Rain, 2022.At the Outset, Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Inder Jeet welcomed the team.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Basharat Hussain shared the activities being held at different levels in the district and the projects proposed to meet the targets envisaged under the Mission, including conservation and developmental activities.
The Director (PMU) MOS suggested a string of measures which need to be taken to further strengthen the water conservation and management efforts in the district. He also directed the concerned departments to make dedicated efforts to conserve and preserve water for the present and future generations.
It is pertinent to mention here that the National Water Mission, Ministry of Jal Shakti launched a campaign “Catch the Rain” with the tagline “Catch the rain, where it falls, when it falls” in 2020 to nudge the states and all stakeholders to create Rain Water Harvesting Structures (RWHS) suitable to the climatic conditions and sub-soil strata, with people’s active participation.
The DDC also took a detailed review of the water conservation and rainwater harvesting measures and pointed towards the depleting water level and increase in water demand. He said advance planning to catch the rain was being implemented under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan.
Highlighting the importance of community participation for the success of the campaign in the district, he said there is a need to create awareness and involve the general public to give momentum to the campaign.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Basharat Hussain, Assistant Commissioner Development, Abid Hussain Shah, DFO, (SF), Surest Manda, CAO, Rakesh Sharma, Xen PHE, Rajesh Sethi, DPO, Israr Ahmed, BDO, Khalil Banday besides other concerned officers were present.
