DC inaugurates Cocoon Auction market at Udhampur

Sericulture Development Department, Udhampur today organised Cocoon Auction Market here at District Sericulture Complex for spring cocoon crop produced by rearers of the District.District Development Commissioner, Udhampur Krittika Jyotsna was the Chief Guest who formally inaugurated the Cocoon Auction Market in presence of Rajeev Gupta, District Sericulture Officer.

Around 75 rearers delivered 3062.850 kg of cocoon crop in the market. The highest rate recorded today was Rs. 1500/- per kg.After inauguration, the DDC also interacted with the growers and asked the District Sericulture Officer to prepare an action plan for increasing cocoon production in the district. 

The DC said that Udhampur has a very good potential for cocoon production and more and more people can take up sericulture as an economic activity with comparatively little effort and investment.The DC said that there was a need to establish silk reeling units in the district so that cocoon production is utilized locally for value addition and employment generation.
