The Punjab Revenue & Public Relations Minister Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia today said that Congress led UPA government’s Cabinet approval to half cooked National Food Security Bill to tempt the common masses on the eve of general elections would not work for this most corrupt government since Independence.

Describing the draft bill as poor carbon copy of the SAD-BJP government’s most successful Atta-Dal scheme, Mr. Majithia pointed out that Congress led UPA government had never bothered for the interests of poor people as by unleashing non-stop inflation it had turned the lives of common people in to a nightmare. He said that it has proposed 5 kg of rice, wheat or millets for per family in the bill and it would serve no purpose. He pointed out that S. Parkash Singh Badal led SAD-BJP government from its limited sources has been providing 35 kg wheat and 4 kg dal to more than 16 lac families since 2007 by spending hundreds of crores to enable them to have two squares meal. He said that as the present Union government has no agenda for the welfare of poor people so it should have at least consulted the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal to make it more realistic keeping in view the ground realities. He demanded that this scheme should not be named after Gandhis’ as whichever scheme had been named after them it failed miserably. He said that this scheme should be dedicated to those who had made significant role in making the country self reliant on food grains security front.

Mr. Majithia accused Congress led UPA government of double standards as it was vehemently criticizing the Punjab government for providing Rs. 5000 crore subsidy to the state farmers, who were making 50 percent contribution in nation’s food kitty on one side and on the other itself going to provide 2 lac crore subsidy on just two schemes namely food security bill (Rs. 1.31 lac crore) and transfer of direct subsidy (70 lac crore) in the bank accounts of beneficiaries just to retain power at any cost in the residual term of UPA. He said that the total tax collection of Central taxes was around 4 lac crore and out which fifty percent spending on these two politically motivated schemes itself explains the desperation of Congress led UPA for retaining power.

Mr. Majithia said that decision regarding food bill was a mere paper clearance for this scheme by Congress led UPA that too on the eve of general election to garner votes. He said that it would not work as the people of the country have already made up their mind for permanent pack up of this inefficient government. He said that this bill would be given practical shape by removing its shortcomings by upcoming NDA government after general elections.

He dared Congress led UPA government that instead of an ordinance it should  get this bill approved by the both houses of the Parliament so that opposition parties could brought the real facts before the people of country. He said that the intelligent people of the country fully understand the food bill game plan of present government and they would never impose their trust in this anti poor regime.
