Today 14th June is celebrated as Blood Donation Day. Donating blood is necessary to save the lives of others. According to the reports by the World Health Organisation (WHO), in the Indian health sector we see a lot of infrastructural complications, leading to deaths of hundreds of people every year due to a shortage of 25 lakh units of blood. Around 10- lakh units of blood are required annually in India, but only 7.5 lakh units are available.By donating blood, not only can you save the lives of others, but you can also improve your health. Let us know how much blood any person can donate and what health benefits can be given to the donor.
Establishment of World Blood Donor Day:
World Blood Donor Day was established in the year 2004 to motivate people to donate blood. The main objective of this day is to create awareness among the masses to donate blood & Sharing the thoughts & concerns regarding blood donation with the public to highlight its importance so that it shouldn’t be in shortage in reserves when sudden need arises anywhere around.

History of World Blood Donor Day:
World Blood Donor Day is celebrated on June 14 on the birthday of Nobel prize winner and scientist Karl Landsteiner, who discovered the ABO blood group system. This ABO blood group system discovery became the reason for awarding Landsteiner win the Nobel Prize in the year 1930 & for kind information let us tell you that before the detection of blood groups, blood transfusions used to happen without knowing or classification of the various blood groups.
