Punjab Cabinet Minister for Power and Public Works departments Mr Harbhajan Singh ETO today assured the farmers of the state that there would be no shortage of power during the upcoming paddy sowing season.The Punjab Government has made all arrangements in this regard.  

He was here especially to review the progress of ongoing development works of the above departments.Talking to reporters informally, he said that all the thermal plants in the state were being brought into operation which would be run at their full capacity. 

He said that there was no shortage of coal now. The coal problem came to light in May month but the Punjab government had raised the issue with the Center very strongly.  He said that there would be no shortage of power during the season due to thermal operation and no shortage of coal.

He then reviewed the progress of the ongoing development works from the departmental officers and directed them to complete all the works within the stipulated time frame.He said that about 200 km of roads were being constructed in district Moga.  

All these works will be completed soon.He said that coordination of various departments was required when roads were being constructed.  It is this lack of coordination that causes these tasks to hang in the balance.That is why they are here today to coordinate.  

Nodal officers are being appointed to ensure the smooth completion of all formalities.  He asked the officials of the power department to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to the general public and farmers in the summer. He said that the Punjab government was making all possible efforts to save groundwater.  In this direction an incentive amount of Rs. 1500 is being provided to the farmers for direct sowing of paddy.  

Farmers are being encouraged to plant Mungi crops under agricultural diversification.Mungi has also been given MSP by the government.  In addition, efforts are being made to link each farm with a canal water facility. He assured that the government would continue to make concerted efforts to save the natural resources of Punjab.

Asked about the arrest of former minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, he said the law was taking its course.If anyone has tampered with the resources of the state, he will not be spared.He said that the law and order situation in the state would be maintained.
