Army vehicle fell into Shyok river Ladakh, 7 killed & several injured

Big news is coming from Ladakh. Seven Army personnel were killed while 19 were seriously injured in a horrific road accident in Turtuk sector on Friday. The injured are being treated in the hospital.

Army bus fell in 50 to 60 feet deep Shyok River:

It is reported that at 9 in the morning a train carrying 26 soldiers from the transit camp of Partapur in Ladakh left for the forward post of Hanif sub-sector. The vehicle carrying soldiers skidded off the road and fell into the Shyok river, 50 to 60 feet deep, about 25 km from Thoise. It is not yet known what caused the army vehicle to fall into the river, with slippery being believed to be the reason.

An official statement has not yet been issued by the army regarding this accident. According to initial information, the soldiers' bus was going from the transit camp towards the forward location of sub-sector Hanif. All the army personnel were injured in this accident. All the jawans were shifted to 403 Field Hospital in Partapur and surgical teams from Leh were sent to Partapur.

7 jawans died on the spot and 19 are in critical condition:

A rescue operation was carried out with the help of people from the surrounding area, police and army personnel and all the soldiers who fell in the river were rescued. Out of which seven soldiers had died on the spot. At the same time, the condition of many of the remaining 19 injured is critical. The seriously injured soldiers are being airlifted and sent to Western Command.

Prime minister expressed his grief:

Prime minister expressed his grief through a twitter post,” Anguished by the bus accident in Ladakh in which we have lost our brave army personnel. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I hope those injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being given to the affected.”

Air Force Helicopter help is being taken:

The names and addresses of the dead jawans and injured are not yet available. The help of Air Force helicopters is also being taken in the relief and rescue work. An official statement has also not been issued by the army regarding this incident.

Union Minister and former Army Chief General VK Singh tweeted, "Sad news of the death of 7 soldiers in the Shyok river in Ladakh. The nation stands with the families of those soldiers in this painful time.
