India's Nikhat Zareen won the gold medal in the 52kg category and became the only fifth Indian woman to secure a gold medal at the World Championships at the Women's World Boxing Championship with a win over Thailand's Jitpong Jutamas in the fly-weight final in Istanbul, Turkey on Thursday.Captioning with the “2022 World Champion” title, Zareen exerted her happiness through twitter portal as :
This win was also India's first gold medal since boxing great Mary Kom won it in 2018. Through her hard work and determination, she managed to fight all odds and script history by winning Gold at Istanbul.Prime Minister’s congratulatory note –

Congratulations to Nikhat Zareen for a fantastic Gold medal win at the women’s World Championship. Former junior youth world champion -
The 25-year-old Zareen is a former junior youth world champion. Against her Thai opponent in the final, Nikhat fought with brilliance and brought home the gold medal. Scorecard of the winning game - The judges scored the bout 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 30-27, 29-28 in the Indian's favour.

She started off her bout pretty aggressively hitting her opponent with big right-hand jabs. Nikhat, the former junior champion has been a much talked about prospect in the Indian women’s boxing scene. She is seen as someone who can take the mantle from the legendary Mary Kom who has been a tremendous servant to Indian boxing for many years.
