World Hand Hygiene Day Celebrated At Ambedkar State Institute Of Medical Sciences Mohali

The Department of Microbiology at the newest government medical college of the state Dr BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences at Mohali (AIMS, Mohali) celebrated “World Hand Hygiene Day” on 5th May at their Auditorium. AIMS Mohali is the fourth government medical college in the state of Punjab and has recently begun 1st year MBBS classes for the first batch of medical students this year.
All the MBBS students, Faculty members of various departments & doctors of the AIMS Mohali participated in various events which were organised to spread awareness & knowledge about the importance of hand hygiene during the celebrations.
The theme for World Hand Hygiene Day 2022 is “Unite for Safety: clean your hands”, it focuses on recognizing that we can add to a facility's climate or culture of safety and quality through cleaning our hands but also that a strong quality and safety culture will encourage people to clean hands at the right times and with the right products. Unite, talk and work together on hand hygiene for high quality safer care everywhere.
The entire day to celebrate World Hand Hygiene Day was dedicated to this cause and various activities like “_I Pledge to clean hands _” Photo booth and Slogan Writing wall were set up.The main event began with an interactive session followed by a medical quiz on “Hand Hygiene” which were conducted by Dr Ritu Garg Professor & Head Department of Microbiology and other faculty members Dr Sonia Mehta, Dr Shiwani Sharma, Dr Shreya Singh & Dr Diljot Sandhu.
The medical students took part in the sessions in a very enthusiastic manner. The attendees were shown an audio-visual presentation on “Importance of Hand Hygiene” & steps of hand hygiene were demonstrated. The event ended with a ceremonial release of balloons into the air by the Director Principal Dr Bhavneet Bharti who thanked the Department of Microbiology in successfully organising the event and spreading the message of uniting, discussing and working together to achieve full compliance of hand hygiene at a healthcare facility.
As per the competency-driven curriculum developed for the MBBS program,Early Clinical Exposure guides student learning by maintaining a focus on patient care. One of the objectives of the curriculum is "first do no harm" " which can be taken care of by creating awareness about the importance of hand hygiene in healthcare. On this day, Department also announced the institutional hand hygiene policy to provide awareness about importance of hand hygiene in patient care .
