Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar urges new generation to follow teachings of Swami Vivekananda

A play based on the life of "Swami Vivekananda" was staged at the historic Gaiety Theater in Shimla today by Radhika Creations under the aegis of the Department of Language, Art and Culture.  Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar while presiding over the program said that Swami Vivekananda was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian teachings, practices of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world, and was credited with raising interfaith awareness, bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion during the late 19th century. Swami Vivekananda was a major force in the contemporary Hindu reform movements in India, and contributed to the concept of nationalism in colonial India, he added.He appreciated the play performed by the artists of Radhika Creations and said that the life of Swami Vivekananda was a role model for all of us.  The new generation needs to follow his teachings, he said.

The play was directed by Sarika Pendse and written by Shubhangi Bhadbde.Lady Governor Anagha Arlekar was also present on the occasion.Earlier, the Governor also visited the painting exhibition of late Sanat Kumar Chatterjee's art on the work of the "Ram-Naam Series".The Governor evinced keen interest in the exhibition and said that the collection of paintings of the remarkable works of the Legendary artist late Shri Sanat Chatterjee depicted the culture of India and spirituality. He said that this series "Ram Naam" of 30 paintings were depictions of the presence of the name Rama in the daily life of the Indian masses.Him Chatterjee, the son of Sanat Chatterjee also apprised the Governor about their contribution in the field of art in Himachal Pradesh.Secretary, Language, Art and Culture Rakesh Kanwar, Director LAC Pankaj Lalit and other prominent people were also present in the occasion.
