Sukhbir Reviews The Work Of Plaza Of Golden Temple-Orders It’s Completion By Diwali

The Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal today reviewed progress of construction of Rs. 78 crore prestigious project of Plaza of Golden Temple and asked the authorities to ensure its completion by Diwali this year.  He said that this Diwali should be Special Diwali at Golden Temple with total Plaza lit up and dedicated to devotees coming to pay obeisance from all over the world.  

 Mr. Badal was here along with his wife and Bathinda Member Parliament Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal  to pay obeisance at Golden Temple. After praying for the accelerated development of Punjab, communal harmony and welfare of all Punjabis, Mr. Badal, after reviewing the progress with the construction agencies and planners told  the   media persons, said that Golden Temple would witness the completion of its prestigious project of Underground Plaza by the Diwali this year as the work was on full swing. He said that within few months finishing touches would be given to the project.  He said that this unique project would prove a boon for thousands of daily tourists from across the world as there would have audio-video information system depicting history and rich Sikh heritage besides number of world class auditoriums.

Asking the construction agency and planners to realign the façade of the project with the intrinsic theme of Sri Harimandir Sahib architecture, Mr. Badal said that Plaza without disturbing the holy glow of Golden Temple should merge in it, further adding beauty to whole view. He also went around to the roads leading from Hall Bazaar to Golden Temple and it was decided that façade of all shops and houses located on this road should also be realigned to give whole street a new look. 

Focusing on providing world class facilities to the pilgrims, Mr. Badal said that opening lobby of Plaza should have Pilgrims Facilitiation Center, Internet Café, Railway and Air Ticket Booking Counters, a Kiosk of Punjab Tourism, a Medical, Healthcare and First Aid counter to provide emergency medical care to the devotees besides religious literature counter to provide free religious literature. Mr. Badal said that the focus of Plaza should be on convenience of the pilgrims while maintaining the religious sanctity of Golden Temple. A separate meeting has also been called to give final touches to the interior artwork of the basement. 

 Directing the department to finalise the Art Director for the basement of the Plaza, Mr. Badal said that the artwork in the basement should be in line with Heritage Complex and murals on the wall should give the chronological educative lesson to the pilgrims regarding ancient Sikh history. Mr. Badal said that he was looking towards this project to associate younger generation with Sikh Panth by organizing audio-visual show in the basement on Sikh history. 

Asking to use best available marble for the construction of Plaza, Mr. Badal constituted two teams to scout for best marble in Makrana and surrounding areas.  Earlier Mr. P.S. Aujla, Secretary PWD gave a presentation on the project and it was decided to hire landscaping experts to decide about greening the Plaza.
