One day awareness camp for women empowerment was organized at village Saharan, Block Marh Jammu, in which over 200 ladies from the surrounding villages participated.The camp was organized by Jammu Women Credit Cooperative Limited in collaboration with J&K Cooperative Union. While chairman Women Credit Cooperative Jammu Smt Kailash Verma presided over the programme Sh Rajesh Kumar Sharma (Bittu) Chairman J&K Cooperative Union was the chief guest. The other special guests on the occasion included G D Bakshi General Secretary J&K Cooperative Union Jammu, SK Sharma Principal CCM Jammu, Th. Kuldeep Singh Senior Consultator, Mrs Usha Kaul, Project Officer Cooperative Education Project Jammu, Mrs Rajni Sharma Promoter Mahila Credit Cooperative District Reasi and Rattan Singh Senior Cooperator.

Giving resume of the Women Credit Cooperative movement in Jammu, Mrs Kailash Verma disclosed that the movement has 13026 women members at present. The membership fees is Rs 1000 each while registration fees is 100. The members have been advanced a total loan of rupees three crore seventy six lakh till date, for running self employment ventures. The members from Saharan village branch alone have been disbursed rupees 25 lakh as loans.

The chairperson Jammu Women Credit Cooperative Limited Mrs Kailash Verma appealed to the women in general to become members of the credit cooperative movement, for running self employment ventures, to supplement the family income and also as a step towards women empowerment, with the women getting dignity by becoming economically self dependent. She also appealed to the Central government to provide adequate funding to the women cooperative credit societies, out of a total allocation of rupees one thousand crores in the current year budget, for empowerment of women. Disclosing that the Jammu Women Credit Cooperative Limited had applied for opening of Women Cooperative bank in Jammu, she demanded early sanction of the same by the RBI.

It was further disclosed that at present there were 35 braches of the Women Credit Cooperative movement including those in erstwhile Doda district. The movement has at present 277 employees, who are engaged on meagre salaries due to financial crunch. She hoped that with Centre funding the movement in J&K, they will be able to enhance the salary of its employees to a reasonable level.The Chairman J&K Cooperative Union Rajesh Sharma congratulated Women Credit Cooperative Limited for making good progress. He lauded the role of Mrs Kailash Verma, whose untiring and sincere efforts have resulted in tremendous progress of the movement, with more and more women coming under its fold.Mrs Seema Chaudhary branch incharge Saharan Mahila Cooperative presented vote of thanks to the guests and the participants in the camp.
