Scientists Exhorted To Adapt With Times

A two-day unit meeting of foods and nutritional component under al-India Coordinated Research Project (ICAR) on home science began at CSK-Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University (HPAU), Palampur, on Wednesday.In his inaugural address, chief guest vice-chancellor, CSK- HPAU, SK Sharma exhorted the scientists to adapt with times to address the relevant issues at the grassroots level.He said food production in the country had increased five times after independence, but still there were problems such as nutritional security the country was facing. “The target group of this nutritional security eats whatever is grown in their respective areas and only such supplements should be suggested which are affordable and easily available to them,” said Sharma.He cited the example of tribal and marginal farmers which needed attention of food scientists. Sharma also suggested special campaigns to educate the masses about this vital component.SR Malhotra, dean of Home Science College, elaborated about the utilisation of minor millets and other locally available items for fortification of food stuff.
