Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Saturday paid glorious tributes to Asiya and Nilofer and called for a complete shutdown in district Shopian on May 30.In a statement to KNS Geelani said that the tragedy that occurred in Shopian shacked the collective conscience of people of the valley. He claimed that forces are responsible for the atrocities and subject women folk to sexual harassment and assault. Referring to the gruesome incident of ‘rape and brutal murder’ of Asiya and Nilofer, he alleged, “Killers are roaming free and administration has provided them shield and protection. They are prominent figure, known to everybody and highly influential.”

Geelani alleged in order to save culprits the evidences were tempered and destroyed on directives of Delhi. “It was Omar Abdullah who in order to save accused, played a wicked role and  declared the said women were drowned in an incident, though even the premier investigation had to take its course,” he alleged. “Latter Omer Abdullah in quite contrast to his early statement proclaimed that victims had committed suicide.” While recalling the sad incident Geelani said though sensing the mood of people the administration for the namesake agreed to investigate the said murder and sexual assault case, “but the criminals had destroyed all evidences.”

“People of Kashmir were not satisfied and are still awaiting  fair trial and demanding that the persons involved in the heinous crime should be dealt with firm hand and brought to book for their wrong doings. With every passing year we remember this fateful day as a mark and symbol for those unfortunate women who since last 65 years are being humiliated and subjected to sexual harassment,” he said.

Taking a dig at the people who never miss a chance to make hue and cry about these gruesome incidents “but at the same time share their moments with the perpetrators” he said, “They should remember that they are the people whose hands are soaked in blood of innocents and are responsible for massacre of common people.”

Meanwhile, Geelani expressed his deep anguish and sorrow at the snail’s pace proceedings in Tabinda Gani case and urged the stringent action against those involved in her murder and rape. In his appeal to international community he urged them to influence their good office and sought their moral support for the trial of those involved in rapes and crime against women in Jammu & Kashmir.
