DC Kumar Amit Lays the Foundation of 'Road Victims' Memorial' to Come Up at Patiala

An Initiative Launched by ‘Patiala Foundation SADAK’, to Sensitise the People of Road Accidents

Under the project ‘Patiala Foundation SADAK’, Patiala Foundation initiated the work of Road Victims Memorial establishment in collaboration with District Administration, Patiala. To commemorate the 6th UN Road Safety Week celebrations, Deputy Commissioner Patiala Sh. Kumar Amit laid the foundation for Road Victims Memorial today near Maharaja Bhalinder Singh Sports Complex polo ground.Patiala Foundation shall maintain this memorial for the Road Crash Victims under the ‘Remember ME plaque’ initiative to provide a permanent memorial to lives lost and devastated through road crashes. This would not only provide some solace to the families but also raise public awareness towards the increasing numbers of avoidable Road fatalities.Patiala Foundation shall maintain the remembrance wall in collaboration with Patiala Media Club where the family members can raise a plaque with the victim‘s name. Sh. Kumar Amit applauded the Patiala Foundation chief functionary Sh. Ravee Singh Ahluwalia for taking this initiative.Apart from this, a children delegation handed over open letter to the Deputy Commissioner, Patiala Sh. Kumar Amit IAS requesting support for #StreetsforLife #30km/h and safe school zones, safe speeds to make our city safer for valuable road users.  As part of celebrations of 6th UN Global Road Safety week, Sh. Kumar Amit unveiled the report related to Seat Belt and Helmet usage in the state of Punjab. This study was conducted by 13 road safety engineers under the aegis of Patiala Foundation and Mission Tandrust Punjab.Patiala Foundation Members- Anmoljit Singh, Harpreet Sandhu, Rakesh Badhwar, Pawan Goyal, Vikram Malhotra, Patiala Media Club president Aman Sood and other executive members also attended this event.

UN Global Road Safety Week

UN has launched the 6th UN Global Road Safety Week on 17th of May, 2021. The purpose of UN Global Road Safety Week is to promote urgent action in all countries around the world to reduce 1.35 million road deaths that occur every year. The goal is to promote low speed streets to safeguard maximum number of lives on urban roads. The week calls on policymakers to act for low-speed streets in cities worldwide, limiting speeds to 30 km per hour.
